creAction exhibition at Nahla: From spiritual awakening to ecological action
In the heart of our CEI Nahla space in Sarajevo, a place where for 25 years knowledge, spirituality, and social responsibility have intertwined on a daily basis, the traveling exhibition creAction was opened as an invitation to all our guests to awaken their conscience and engage in a conversation about shared social responsibilities.
This artistic-spiritual event, taking place within Laudato si’ Week, traditionally marked in Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Center for peace education (CMO) with its partners as part of the Movement for ecological conversion, brought together different dimensions that Nahla has cultivated for years: faith as the foundation of conscience and a driver of action, art that leads to reflection and questioning, and responsibility, to which we call one another, toward the common good.
The exhibition was jointly opened by Alen Kristić, the initiator of this artistic-spiritual project, the author Amer Tikveša, historian and member of the Center for Peace Education team, Rasim Ibrović, and our founder and president Sehija Dedović, symbolically connecting their different perspectives in the spirit of a shared mission.
The creAction exhibition, inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato si’, affirms care for the planet as a universal ethical obligation that transcends religious, cultural, and national boundaries. This artistic-spiritual initiative positions ecological responsibility as an integral part of contemporary religious and intellectual engagement. Through carefully designed installations, textual messages, and symbolic expressions, the exhibition authors and the Center for Peace Education team articulate a strong stance: it is impossible to separate true spiritual awakening from ecological awareness, care for nature as a shared resource, and the readiness to act in service of preserving humanity’s common home.
It was precisely at the exhibition opening that the announcement of the Bosnian edition of the document Mizan: Alliance for the Earth found its rightful place, representing an important contribution of the Islamic tradition to the contemporary ecological discourse. This document addresses the most pressing challenges of our time: climate change, loss of biodiversity, and pollution, calling individuals around the world to proactively and immediately assume responsibility and participate in the global dialogue on environmental protection.
Nahla’s founder and president, Sehija Dedović, noted on this occasion that CEI Nahla has, for 25 years, consistently nurtured the values that creAction symbolically and substantively unites: “This exhibition is not a guest in Nahla. Nahla is its home,” adding that both Laudato si’ and Mizan send the same message: a call to action that arises from spiritual responsibility for preserving the common home.
An additional value of the event was the youth workshop The Ecological Encyclical of Pope Francis “Care for Our Common Home – Laudato si’” in the mirror of Islamic tradition. The workshop encouraged reflection on the philosophy of degrowth, an approach contrary to the culture of constant growth and consumption that leads to ecological crisis. Viewing nature solely as a resource, leads to self-destruction; therefore, it is our religious and civic duty to reconsider our habits and take responsibility. Religion in this process can, and should, play a transformative role, offering not only a sense of obligation but also spiritual strength in the struggle for justice, solidarity, and the protection of the Earth.
We look forward to your visit to the exhibition, which remains open until May 30 2025 — a space for shared reflection and action toward a sustainable future.
